Alan Cocks Engineering bring a wealth of experience in the motorsport industry to any project they take on.

The graphic above shows a selection of the cars worked on in current and previous projects and earlier in Alan’s career. Working clockwise around the A.C.E logo the experience is detailed below:
- A Member of the Vehicle Engineering Department at Honda Racing F1 Team, working on data and performance analysis, simulation and simulation tool development.
- A Vehicle dynamicist in the re-structured Brawn GP Vehicle dynamics department, part of the championship winning team.
- Lead the development of custom in-house lap simulation and track mapping software for Arden GP2 team.
- R&D design engineer at the then re-branded Mercedes GP F1 Team.
- Data and then Junior Race Engineer in British F3 for Carlin, part of another championship winning team.
- Performance Engineer in GP3.
- Performance Engineer for Max Chilton at Marussia F1 team. Responsible for all performance aspects of the race car including the development of performance analysis techniques.
- Running a clubmans cup sportscar.
- Test Engineer at Red Bull Racing, responsible for planning tests and running the team’s test car at test, aero and filming events.
- Performance Engineer / Senior Performance engineer in Formula E, having worked with several Formula E teams in various performance engineering roles, responsible for the development of performance analysis tools and procedures as well as extracting the maximum performance from the car and driver on race weekends.
Of course, there is more to a winning motorsport team than working with the race cars, there is a lot of preparation, simulation and pre-event analysis to be carried out in order to prepare for a race weekend.
- A wide range of experience with driver in the loop simulators having worked on/with the simulators at Honda F1 Racing Team, McLaren Applied Technologies, Scuderia Ferrari, Red Bull Racing F1 Team and Citroen Racing as well as taking a consultancy role in the development of the simulators at a commercial simulator centre. Alan was also solely responsible for the design, build and running of the new state of the art simulator programme at Carlin (Capsicum Motorsport) in 2011, at the time this one of the best simulators in motorsport outside of Formula 1, and is still a very highly regarded simulator.
- As well as wealth of driver in the loop simulator experience, Alan has an array of lap simulation experience having used and developed custom in house packages at several F1 teams. He has also used and built models for use with several off the shelf Lap simulation packages, including LapSim, AeroLap and ChassisSim.
- For more detailed analysis and more complex tool-sets, it is often necessary to write computer code, Alan Cocks Engineering specialise in the use of MATLAB and VBA code, having gained a wealth of experience in these languages over the past decade.
- Having worked in performance analysis and vehicle dynamics departments, it is inevitable the a good level of vehicle dynamics experience and knowledge is built up. This has been put to use many times calculating a wide variety of maths channels and analysis metrics to calculate exactly what is happening to the race car in order to determine how to improve its characteristics.
